Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science BABS

Program focus


Students will complete two majors from the Bachelor of Arts
and one eight course major from the Bachelor of Science. Students
will also need to meet all the major requirements for both degrees.
This combination will require a total of four years of full-time study
or up to nine years of part-time study.

The program aims to produce graduates who meet the aims and
objectives of both the Bachelor of Arts and
the Bachelor of Science degree programs.

Program structure

The program comprises 32 units as follows:

Core courses 4 units
Arts courses 14 units (two 7“unit majors)
Science courses 14 units (one 8“unit major plus 4 units from Sciences courses)
plus 2 units of electives

Note: Entry into the Visual Arts Practice major is subject
to an interview and submission of an acceptable folio during Orientation
week.

This structure is set out in the following table:

take CIS1000 Information Systems Concepts.

Major studies

Arts Studies

The Arts component shall comprise:

  • at least one seven-unit discipline based major from the majors
    available under the Bachelor of Arts

  • another seven-unit discipline based major from the Bachelor
    of Arts.


(At least two units from each major must be at third year level)

Science Studies

The Science component shall comprise:

Either

  • an eight-unit discipline based major chosen from the majors
    under the Bachelor of Science (i.e. Biology,
    Computing, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Environment and Sustainability)

  • a four-unit study selected from one discipline offered by the
    Faculty of Sciences. This four-unit study may or may not be in the
    same discipline as in the eight-unit Science major

    Or

  • a twelve-unit discipline based major chosen from the majors
    under the Bachelor of Science (i.e. Psychology,
    Information Technology or Mathematics and Statistics) (Note “
    the 12 unit major in Psychology is not part of an Australian Psychology
    Council Accreditation accredited degree. Students undertaking this
    major would not be eligible to undertake the Bachelor of Science (Honours)
    Psychology degree and thus pursue further training to become a Psychologist.)
    AND

  • a further two units of Faculty of Sciences approved electives
    which may either extend the studies already selected or may be in
    additional Science discipline areas.


Additional Requirements - Science

  • At least two units of study in the Science component must be
    at third level.

  • Students majoring in Computing (eight-unit major), Mathematics
    (eight-unit major), Mathematics and Statistics (twelve-unit major),
    or Information Technology (twelve-unit major) must complete CSC1401 Foundation Programming and MAT1101 Discrete Mathematics for Computing their two science
    electives.

  • Students not completing the major in Mathematics (eight-unit
    major), Computing (eight-unit major), Mathematics and Statistics (twelve-unit
    major) or Information Technology (twelve-unit major) must complete
    the course MAT1100 Foundation Mathematics or the course MAT1102 Algebra and Calculus I
    . Students may need to take this course as one of their
    two science electives.
