Music at CQUniversity encompasses many areas including Jazz and Popular Music (musical development through performance, vocal and instrumental performance and composition and arrangement); Classical Voice (variety of classical vocal styles, solo and large vocal ensembles, technical theatre aspects, stage management, sound and lighting for theatre and design and direction for theatre); Classical Piano (classical and contemporary piano styles, solo piano, piano accompaniment, technical theatre aspects, stage management, sound and lighting for theatre and design and direction for theatre)' Creative Music Technologies (industry relevant skills in music technology, live sound recording, reading and writing music notation and creating music with new audio technologies); and Music Studies (generalised music curriculum, historical, theoretical and cultural contexts of Western music and classical, jazz or contemporary popular music studies).

On completing a Bachelor of Music (Honours), you will be qualified for a number of different career areas including professional musician, private music teacher, audio engineer, arranger, composer, church musician or music researcher. With further study, you can also work as a university lecturer, arts administrator, public relations officer, music marketer, music librarian, music business manager or school music teacher.

CQUniversity's Bachelor of Music (Honours) program provides you with a link between pass degrees and research higher degrees. This challenging program aims to prepare you for either full research Masters or PhD degrees. One of the advantages of studying with us is the broad range of disciplines we offer, including (but not limited to) music performance (jazz, contemporary popular music and classical), composition, musicology and music technology. If you choose not to go on to complete a research higher degree, then this program will still equip you with invaluable research skills as well as an advanced ability for critical thinking and independent learning.
