Deakin University...
a leading University in distance learning
About Deakin University
Deakin
University is a global leader in flexible course
delivery and a pioneer of online learning.
Deakin aims to give its graduates the edge
in employment markets and prepare them for leadership in industry
and the professions.
The University has 60 000 students enrolled
each year, and specialises in student-centred education and lifelong
learning.
Deakin University has six campuses.
Melbourne is Victoria's capital city with three
million people. It's been voted one of the world's most livable cities,
with international food, shopping, beautiful gardens and an efficient
public transport network. Deakin's three Melbourne campuses are located
within 30 minutes of the city centre. An extensive redevelopment program
has expanded the complex of modern education buildings.
A one-hour trip by road or train west of Melbourne
takes you to the city of Geelong, where Deakin University has two
campuses. The Waterfront campus, in the heart of the city, is an award-winning
architectural showpiece. On the outskirts of Geelong, Deakin's main
residential campus has extensive education and recreation facilities
and accommodation for 450 students.
Deakin's Warrnambool campus is located near
the spectacular south coast on the banks of the Hopkins River. Marine
and freshwater science and aquaculture is a focus for teaching and
research.
Deakin has five faculties, Arts, Business
and Law, Education, Health and Behavioural Sciences, and Science and
Technology.
All Deakin students have choices about the
way they study. Students can attend lectures on campus and receive
face-to-face teaching, but thousands of busy professionals have discovered
a different way to study - using flexible, online course delivery.
Comprehensive study packages include state-of-the-art computer-aided
learning, simulations and videos.
Flexible delivery allows students to study
on campus or off campus, full time or part time, or using a mix of
study modes. With Deakin, students can take a degree in many fields,
undergraduate or postgraduate, from anywhere in the world - at home,
or where they work.
Students studying on campus or off campus
take exactly the same Deakin degree.
For students based overseas, agreements are
possible where Deakin arranges local tutors and lecturers to visit in person at least once a semester. Lecturers also keep in
touch using email, fax, telephone and computer conferencing.
In 1993, Deakin University created a wholly owned subsidiary company, with a brief to tailor
education and training to the needs of corporate clients. It works
with a broad range of national and international corporations, professional
associations and government agencies. Deakin has grown to
become a leading provider of education and training for
organisations, with more than 40 000 people enrolled through partnerships
and contracts at any one time.
Deakin students can gain credit or advanced
standing for relevant prior study or industry experience. Fees are
competitive and summer semesters can help students complete their
degree in minimum time.
In 1995 Deakin was named 'University
of the Year' for its innovative use of information technology in teaching.
In 1997 it won a five-star rating from the
Graduate Careers Council.
In 1999 Deakin became the only university
to be awarded the coveted University of the Year twice
- this time for its productive partnerships with business and industry.
Deakin University degrees are recognised world wide and by
Professional Associations.
